Project Description
Since 2002 until now, the Lake Tanganyika is recording it's longest and ever recorded water rise since 1889.
Resulting to water advance on the lake's shores since 2002, the 2021 rapid rise was the most disastrous hazard which destroyed up to 10,000 basic infrastructures on the lake's shores in all coastal cities in Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and letting thousands people homeless.
Due to the lack of reliable referral data including weather forecast, map of areas prone to coastal floods, etc. useful for the disaster preparedness and assessment that allow local authorities and humanitarian actors prevent communities under exposure in one part.
And also due to the already identified new cycle of the lake's water rise since January that threaten basic infrastructures in another part, we are believe that the youth's involvement in reducing and mitigating the risk of upcoming disaster is of utmost importance.
Tanganyika Coastal Community's Resilience - TACOR Project is a youth-led project that promote access to the climate risk information in the aim of strengthening the community's resilience to coastal floods in the African great lakes region.
The project identifies areas under coastal floods risk, assesses the flood's occurrence possibilities and propose protective measures to be adopted by vulnerable communities.
The project targets up to 50,000 families living in floods prone areas in the Congolese costal cities of Uvira and Baraka.
